I Thought This Blog Was Dead — Turns Out I Was Very Wrong
It’s been a long time since I last wrote a post here.
So long, in fact, that I genuinely assumed this blog had quietly faded away into the depths of the internet — something I once poured a lot of time into, but that no one was really reading anymore.
I was wrong.
Very wrong.
Over the last little while, I took a closer look at the analytics and discovered that more than 16,000 people are still visiting this site every single month. That honestly stopped me in my tracks. For a blog I hadn’t actively touched in years, that level of interest was both surprising and incredibly motivating.
A New Home, A New Chapter
Some of you may notice a small but important change:
The blog has moved from the old South African domain to anythingoverip.com.
Since I no longer live in South Africa, it made sense to move the site to a .com domain that better reflects where I’m at now, both geographically and professionally. It also didn't hurt that I was finally able to buy the .com domain as the person who previously registered it let it lapse, so I snapped it up 😄
The old links won’t disappear overnight. I’ll be gradually redirecting the original URLs to the new ones as I migrate the content in my spare time. This is very much a work-in-progress, so if you see things shifting around, that’s why.
A Fresh Coat of Paint (Still Drying in Places)
You’ll also notice that many posts now have brand-new header images, though some are still missing them. I’m recreating visuals for every article so the site feels consistent, modern, and easier to scan.
If a post looks a little bare right now — don’t worry — I’m still busy 🙂
The Posts People Love Still Surprise Me
One of the most interesting things I noticed while digging through the stats was which articles are getting the most attention.
Posts on topics like bandwidth and clock rate continue to pull in huge numbers of readers, even though, in my opinion, far fewer real-world connections rely on these concepts today than they once did.
It’s a good reminder that:
- foundational networking concepts never really go away
- and there are always new people learning them for the first time
That’s actually pretty awesome.
Goodbye WordPress 👋
Another big change: this site is no longer running on WordPress.
The old setup had become painfully slow and heavy — honestly, it was running like a dog. I finally decided enough was enough and moved to a new platform.
The difference is night and day.
The new site is lightning fast, far easier to maintain, and a much better fit for long-form technical content. It’s made writing and managing posts enjoyable again, which is probably the biggest win of all.
About the Old Comments
If you’re looking for old comments and can’t find them, that’s intentional.
I disabled comments many years ago, and by then, most of the comments were already stale or no longer relevant. During the move, I was not able to carry them forward.
If you’ve got questions, feedback, or ideas, there’s a much better place for that now.
What Should I Write About Next?
This is where I’d love your input.
What topics would you like to see covered here?
- CCNA fundamentals?
- Real-world troubleshooting?
- Design mistakes you only learn the hard way?
- Exam prep strategies?
- Modern networking vs “old-school” concepts?
If you want to be part of that conversation — and get direct access to other members and me for quick help — I’ve set up a community here:
It’s a place to:
- ask questions
- discuss topics you’re struggling with
- get help as you work toward passing your CCNA
Seeing how many people are still reading this site has genuinely reignited my motivation to write again. If you’re one of those readers — thank you. And if you’re new here, welcome.
There’s a lot more to come.
